With Halloween behind us and Thanksgiving just a day away, the holidays are officially here. It is a festive time of year filled with family, friends, fun, and celebration. As much as we love the holidays, they can also bring about some unwelcome guests like stress and overeating. Here are our tips to help you stay healthy through the holidays.

ENJOY…IN MODERATION

We aren’t going to tell you not to enjoy yourself but don’t overdo it or your health (and your waist) will be unhappy. So have that glass of eggnog and slice of pumpkin pie, but don’t always go straight for the unhealthy options. Enjoy the fruit and veggie platters and eat balanced meals to prevent yourself from feeling unwell later.

STAY HYDRATED

Staying hydrated is important year-round, but with the busy holiday season, it can be easy to forget to drink water. Water helps the body flush out toxins and aids in getting better sleep, digestion, clearer skin, and more. Keep a bottle with you wherever you go and make a goal of drinking half your body weight in ounces each day.

GET RESTFUL SLEEP

There’s work to do, presents to buy, meals to prepare, and parties throw – it can be so overwhelming! Your head may be spinning and you may be putting off sleep to accomplish more, but sleep deprivation will only make you feel worse. Your body needs restful sleep in order to recuperate and repair. So turn off your phone, crawl in bed, and get 7-8 hours of sleep.

WASH YOUR HANDS

This time of year is often referred to as “flu season”, but we typically are more susceptible to getting sick when we’re dehydrated, have a lack of sun (aka Vitamin D), don’t wash our hands enough, or are sleep deprived. Wash your hands every chance you get to prevent illness and use sanitized if that’s your only option.
