It is that time of the year again when we spring forward and though we gain an hour of sunshine, this week is hard as we lose an hour of sleep. Whether you welcome this time of year or hate the effects of the time change, there are some things you may be doing to make this week harder than it needs to be. Here are our daylight saving time tips.

DON’T SET A PACKED SCHEDULE

Most people want to jump right into this week as if it’s like every other – but it’s just not! Research indicates that performance at work suffers in the days following the time change for the simple reason that people are tired. Don’t add more stress to your body by planning a busy schedule. Instead, focus on lighter tasks to prevent yourself from falling behind.

DON’T AVOID EXERCISE

Whether you’re a yogi or a cross-fit junkie, exercise might seem like the last thing you want to do when you’re tired. Try not to miss your regular exercise days, as your body is under extra stress and can benefit from a stress outlet (like exercise). If you really can’t bring yourself to hit the gym, take advantage of the extra daylight and take a walk or bike ride after work.

DON’T ALTER YOUR DIET

When you are feeling tired and stressed, you may find yourself craving foods that aren’t the best for you. Instead of over-indulging, focus on well-rounded meals. It may help to plan your meals for the week and even prep ahead of time.

DON’T MISS CHIROPRACTIC APPOINTMENTS

As your local Saginaw, MI chiropractor, it is our goal to help you feel your best and achieve true health and wellness. Because your body is under increased stress due to loss of sleep and adjusting to a new time schedule, it’s important that your central nervous system is functioning as it should be.
